Tiger Softball Hits It Out Of The Park
Central proudly offers students a large variety of sports teams, from major sports such as football, basketball, and soccer, to the more uncommon sports such as swimming, ping pong, and bowling. Central’s sports are available for all genders, and softball is one of the many sports that is female dominated. The softball team has always been good, but this year they’re doing even better than in the past. The players are filled with excitement at the recent success of the team, and their captain Skylar Whisnant is very proud.
“Since the beginning of the year I could tell we had some talent moving up to the varsity squad this season,” senior and softball captain Skylar said. “I watched some of the players at the softball tryouts, and they were already doing a lot better than we were last year. We won our first game against North Little Rock, and after that, we really got our momentum going. We went on a winning streak and then lost to Cabot, but we didn’t let that get our spirits down. We’ve won the last two games we played and the rest of the season is looking pretty bright.”
Although the softball team doesn’t have a home field at Central, there are many softball fields around the state available for use. They practice almost every day after school during their athletic block and are steadily improving their skills and chemistry. Not only are they a formidable softball team, they’re also close friends with strong bonds.
“The season is going really well and that’s exciting, but really the most important thing is that we all get along with one another and have fun,” senior Sammie Manning said. “I’ve made lots of new friends on the softball team, and I hope that I can help my teammates have the same experience I’ve had.”
The team is full of hard-working athletes, and they don’t plan on slowing down any time soon. The players have enjoyed the season so far, and everyone is looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings.
