Oct. 30, the basketball teams hosted the Black and Gold scrimmage as a way to preview the upcoming season.
“Black and Gold night is just an introduction, really” said Varsity Boy’s head coach Brian Ross, “to the fans and to the public [for] our team.”
Throughout the summer and fall the teams have been working hard to show their dedication and hard work, but the Black and Gold Night is a way for the team to have fun and bond.
“We’ve had about eighty practices since the start of the summer to now so everybody’s anxious to start playing games, and black and gold night is significant because it’s just the beginning of the season,” said Ross, “Everybody’s excited about it and is looking forward to having a good time.”
While the team and coaches are anticipating the beginning of the new season, they have a lot of high expectations for the upcoming year.
“We’ve got a lot of returning players from a team that was one of the top teams in the state last year,” Ross said. “So our goal is to win a state title at the end of the year. We’re going to work really hard every day to hope that we achieve that.”
The Central band also attended the Black and Gold game to provide more entertainment for the students.
“I was there for the band. So I played the drum lines. I was playing drums the entire time but it was fun. It was a good time,” Sophomore Noah Peters said.
The Black and Gold night wasn’t just fun for the basketball team, but also for the students who attended.
“It was a fun time, they had different stuff to do like a three point shooting contest, and they divided up teams, and they had a lot of competitions like they did a boys and girls scrimmage against each other.” Senior Kamilla Parker said “I had a lot of friends that went and we were wearing black and gold.”
