In the absence of their Coach Markie Alberius, the volleyball team pushes each other to do their best on and off the court. From showing their support on Instagram, to attending her baby shower, the volleyball team has been there for Alberius throughout her whole pregnancy, even if she can’t be present on the sideline.

Junior Mya Rancifer, along with the rest of the team, works to maintain a positive attitude amongst her teammates in the same way Alberius would.

“I hope to see growth, consistency, positivity, and good vibes [throughout the season]. Regardless of whether we win or lose, I just hope we play to our fullest even while Coach A is gone,” said Rancifer.

Alberius hopes that while she is out on maternity leave, the team doesn’t give up or lose focus. She is working towards establishing a balance between being present for her team, and watching them succeed from the sideline, while still allocating the majority of her time to her new baby boy, Ace.

“I’m going to try and find a good balance of, obviously being a new mother, but still being involved with the team,” said Alberius.

The family-like bond between each player and their coach allow for a stronger connection, which strengthens as they enter each season. The chemistry that they share from their off-court relationships translates to better on-court performance. Whether they’re playing or just hanging out, their bond remains solid.

Volleyball has brought the team together, and created a community among the girls. Jaxon Jersey, a junior, believes that Alberius’ absence will ultimately make the team closer

“We’re such a close-knit team that honestly, [her absence] just going to bring us together in the end,” Jaxon said. “We’re gonna have to lean on each other for more support.”
