Easter Sunday Brings Together Family, Good Food

A perfect dessert for a perfect family gathering.

The Saturday before Easter, my brother and his girlfriend came home. My mom made this delicious spread. Grilled steak, zucchini, baked potatoes, and some good, crusty bread. The weather was perfect for this meal, sunny and 75. We sat outside while we cooked, and then enjoyed the good company and good food.
Easter Sunday: The Sunday of all Sundays in the South. After church, my family and I went to my Aunt’s house for lunch, where we had ham, cheese grits, deviled eggs, Sister Schubert rolls, and green beans. The green beans were ‘Arkansas Green Beans, with lots of bacon and brown sugar; they’re a hit at any family get together.
My mom’s legendary Italian Cream Cake, filled with coconut and pecans, and topped with a fluffy cream cheese frosting. It was a perfect way to end lunch.
The weekend before Easter, we visited my family in Helena Arkansas. After one amazing lunch, this dessert ended the meal perfectly. A cookie from Community Bakery, and my aunt’s homemade pound cake with whipped cream. (Photos by Fran Delacey)
