As a slasher-movie fan, I was highly anticipating Scream 7, but the movie did not deliver the suspenseful scenes and fast-paced plot like Scream 6 did. Scream 7, directed by Kevin Williamson, came out Feb. 27, and takes place two years after Scream 6. Unlike Scream 5 and 6, the movie returns to its original cast following Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), as they deal with the sudden reappearance of Ghostface. 

The storyline starts as any other Ghostface movie as Sydney is living a normal life after the events of Scream 5. Despite the previous movies focusing on Tara and Sam Carpenter (Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera), Ghostface goes after Sydney again, and her new family. The pattern of Ghostface going after her loved ones leads to Sydney becoming isolated and fearful, a plot that seems to be an ongoing problem in the Scream movie franchise. Instead of targeting Sydney, Ghostface went after Tatum instead, putting a strain on Sydney and her daughter’s relationship. Despite this, the mother and daughter duo had to work through their problems and ultimately came together to defeat Ghostface.  

While the storyline, characters, and special effects of the movie are really good, the pacing of the movie is quite slow. I’m not the biggest fan of slow-paced movies because I’m impatient, so this was a big downside. One of the things about the movie that I enjoyed was the fact that Ghostface went after Tatum. That tactic feels sadistic; it brings more spice to the movie. I felt like he was trying to make Sydney go insane. Another positive about the movie was the casting and the amazing acting. One of the things I didn’t like about the movie was the underwhelming Ghostface reveal. The ending felt too repetitive, and it was an obvious reveal, a disappointment compared to the shocking ending of the previous movie. While this movie is really interesting, I hope this is the last Scream movie because 7 movies about the same antagonist is more than enough. Overall, I rate this movie a 6 out of 10. I highly recommend watching it if you love the Scream franchise.
